Hello, watch

Tick tock
December 5th, 2013

My FuelBand crapped out around the time Nike announced an updated FuelBand SE. As much as I enjoy reviewing statistics reflecting my physical activity, I’m waiting to see what wearable technology is announced in 2014.

Before the FuelBand, I rarely wore a wrist watch. I didn’t understand the appeal of a wrist watch. They tell time and look great with a suit. Why would I need a watch if my phone displays the time (plus more)? Since the FuelBand broke, and my wrist was feeling a little naked, I got into the habit of wearing a watch. I realized a couple of things:

  1. I don’t grab my phone out of my pocket as often—no more ‘What time is it? Oh, I might as well check my email’ scenarios.
  2. I am more attentive, which should make me a better listener.
  3. I missed the simplicity. No sync required.

Watches I’ll rotate through:

My Timex Weekender gets the most use. I swapped the original band for a chromexcel button-stud strap. It’s a great upgrade which improved the overall comfort and appearance (and will probably last 10x Timex lifetimes).

I’m still waiting for an attractive smartwatch. I like the idea of the Pebble Smartwatch, but I’m not a huge fan of its general appearance.
